The resistances are immaterial.The trimmer is there to compensate for the non-linear transfer characteristic, which varies from one tube to the next.

Unless you want to make measurements with a scope, just set it where it sounds best to your ears at the volume that you will be playing it.

5k vs. 4k7 will make little difference in voltages, but a 5W wirewound cement resistor will have lower noise and lower surface temperature in use.
