Fly back diodes / arc protection diodes protect the tubes at the expense of the output transformer!
The diodes can't do anything until there is a arc and all too many times at that point the enamel insulation of the wire wound up in the core at some location has be burned through, and now there's your shorted primary in your OT!
Tubes on average run a lot less in cost then a OT does!
Choke question.

When I die, I want to go like my Grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep.
Not screaming like the passengers in his car!
Cutting out a man's tongue does not mean he’s a liar, but it does show that you fear the truth he might speak about you!

thanks Steve, that seems to be the wrong way round then, you'd be better off keeping your OT at the expense of a tubeStevem wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 10:18 am Fly back diodes / arc protection diodes protect the tubes at the expense of the output transformer!

Is the scenario of this happening very rare? I personally have never had it happen. I've had the false center tap resistors save an amp.

Not all image viewers seem to agree on the format for picture orientation. The solution is to edit the image with a dedicated software, like Photoshop or Gimp, the latter one being free - and well worth the money you spend for it...
