I bought his last 18 watt marshall ot.
Half the price by the time you add up the shipping.
For that kind of pricing i'll try it.

Re: recto ?
Too much is fine for rectifier filament. Beware HT running 150mA is 5Y3 design max, and that's dissipation below product of 340V. Check data sheet. The 5U4 would be OK for 250mA/337V.lumox0013 wrote:... or is 5 amps too much ?

So 3A it is. I got a 280v unit I planned to use in an AC30ish build. Using Russian 6P14P tubes 3A would work for the power tubes. I guess I will need a filament transformer for the 12ax7s.didit wrote:Arrived yesterday. No typo. Checked w. Heyboer and confirmed definitely 3A 6.3V-ct. Two EL34 would consume full filament secondary. A pair of 6L6 plus 3-4 12A*7 is limit too. That's what I'd been planning so OK. 280v unit arrived pristine, never seen solder. No plan yet for it.didit wrote:Hmm - either ordering error from MFG that wasn't caught or typo in the listing. A 5A 5V filament secondary is fairly useless. I anticipate typo but an error could explain dumping.V2 wrote:the 337-0-337 PT has 3.5 secondaries with only 3A. It says its 40 Watts and good for EL34. Isn't the 3A a little light for EL34s?

I always wanted to order my own transformers. But folks like Phil will build what you say, and sometimes I make mistakes. For the moment I'm content with Hammond. Still have a few Heyboer PTs from when Moose was having them made for Trainwreck clones. The 6.3 volt winding is unnecessarily stiff. Wire guage so large it barely fits the socket connections.
For those who need more current, put the pres on the PT and get a 3A toroid for the '34s.
