You got that right, mate. I tried to contact Dana Hall a couple times, but got no response.dorrisant wrote:another board needs to be put made for that VVR...

I may be offering VVR-type boards, if there is AmpGarage interest. I don't think Dana is offering them any longer.

Re: Monkeymatic Trinity (5e3 Deluxe)
Dave, if you do the fixed-bias ones, too, that would be killer.

Yes, I would do both cathode and fixed bias. I may put out a feeler. But I could certainly use these and I know others could as well, so...
Sorry for the thread derail. Great job on your 5E3! Have you lit it up yet? I have a Celestion Blue in mine and it sings!

Sound demo:
https://soundcloud.com/aaron-lyon-1/mon ... ity-test-1
Very happy with flavor and performance at full volume, controls maxed. Really, really nice. Cleans up so nicely with volume on guitar.
Right at start of sound demo, I'm hitting the strings hard, with all controls maxed. I'm hearing a significant "brown out", sag-like vanishment of output. Is this blocking distortion? Or am I starving the 20uF reservoir cap I added along with the VVR?
Recorded with SM57 a couple of inches away from cone, on axis, and a Fat Head ribbon mic at ear level, five feet from amp, panned hard right.

That big 4k7 dropping resistor on the screens is giving some screen compression on big transients. I added a choke in series with the 4k7 and it sounds very good, tighter in the low end perhaps. I am a compression junkie however and love the sag effect. Trainwrecks do that.
Re: Monkeymatic Trinity (5e3 Deluxe)
Love the layout of this amp and have enjoyed seeing the other builds you have been posting. This one sounds like a nice 5E3.

Bustin up some planks. Wood will only do 89% of what I tell it.

Nice fat sounds, Xtian!!! It sounded like you were just getting started when the track ended tough... Nice lookin cab so far.
Dave, can you point me in the direction of some info? In particular, Iv'e been looking for some reading material on the effects, like compression and such, that are caused by the values in the dropping string. I want to dive a little deeper into the the finer design points...

Assembled with a Heppner AlNiCo from an old Hammond organ, awaiting new Jensen speakers. Ooh, that box is shiny after five coats of Gun Oil.
I found no benefit to my normal/bridged input switch, so removed it, leaving the inputs permanently jumpered. Also removed #2 input jack. Simple.

Re: Monkeymatic Trinity (5e3 Deluxe)
Nice build, I bought a box and finger press to make my own chassis a few years ago, sadly I hardly use it now, but that's because I have loads of easy chassis options
so it has a solid state rectifier and still has decent sag? I always thought the 5Y3 was a big part of that on the deluxe
Is that a nylon screw you used for the mosfet, I have mounted a few with nylon screws but always worried what they would do with the heat.
