Oh good. Then it's settled. People with old electrical will sit in the dark because congress are a bunch of scientists.

Oh wait. Congress are a bunch of malcontent politicos. Shit.

Depends what you mean by science. The universe was only created 6000 years ago. Haven't had enough time to think up anything good yet, except conduct a war here, a war there, war war everywhere. Hey, war's good for business dont'cha know. Peace and goodwill to all the nations, and here's a drone with a missile if you don't agree.

We send people who don't believe in reality to write history.

Illinois house passed a bill that PI was three even not so long ago.. within the age of reason.

The only thing that looks more like a criminal than a congressman is a president, and like I need either. Expensive pets making the calls. No thanks. My life. See ya in the next one, and don't be late.

If anyone wants 240VAC mains incandescents let me know. I'm confident we can work-out some kind of mutually beneficial arrangement.

A lot of research has been done to find the best propellant to speed-up the delivery of democracy all around the world.

You used to be able to buy 130 volt incadescent bulbs that lasted years and years.
I've experienced all kinds of failures with the CFLs .some involving small explosions
If I remember my schooling correctly, the technology exists for essentially permanent incandescent light bulbs, but obviously this would never work from a modern human (business) standpoint.

I seem to recall that Edison's house, now obviously a tourist spot, still has the same bulbs in it that he made, but maybe I'm crazy.

I guess those 130v bulbs are what I need anyhow. It's amazing that these aren't "common" or whatnot.

I stumbled upon rugged 100w bulbs from those roadside letter signs... those things never blow. I guess they'er a 220v filament
They encourage you to save electricity so that they can raise the rates to preserve shareholder income, your actually spending more for less.
Those florescent suck, you cant really use them in cold harsh conditions, the light is bad for your eyes, they cycle and flicker, and they'er a fire hazard too.
I have been seeing LED products, I hope those work out better.

I discovered this season, that most power companies base their billing on the high mean of your consumption, after some odd years my power bill had gotten to be outrageous with no cause, it dropped by 3/4 when I closed the account and reopened it in my wife"s name. I'll do it again this spring.

That's easy - gas emitted by politicians.

Local power company charges by kilowatt-hours, measured by a meter on each house, apartment & business. End of May, strong winds brought a limb from my neighbors' tree down on my wires & peeled my service wires off the house from the weather head half way down the house. Had to replace the damaged parts at my expense plus $100 permit, and the power company mounted their new digital meter to the outside of the house. (Got a new breaker box too, replacing the relic that had been serving @ 60+ years.) Funny thing, my bill is 2/3 what it was. Of course the 'lectric company claims there was nothing wrong with the old meter. And nothing wrong with me having overpaid by 50% for the last 27 years.

Long life bulbs

Post by JoeCon »

What some companies did was take a 100 watt filament and run it at 60 watts thus giving it a "long life" bulb. Sure running most stuff at half power makes it last longer. What I've done is grab a few halogen bulbs for my light bulb tester. Both 40 and 60 watt.

I work for Panasonic in lighting r&d and were already past LED into OLED and even more fun and coming next...Laser Lighting. Check out BMW with the first Laser headlamps. The Future is happening now in lighting....fun.

Leo

Like LASIK from the oncoming car! We'll all see better, no really we will.

And I've seen Laser Stereo speakers too. This guy creates an argon plasma that he modulates with a laser driven from an amp. Plug your TW into that!
LOL...

Exactly. This is what pisses me off about it. On their end this has nothing to do with saving energy or environmental concerns. Someone with connections is getting rich, just like everything else.

Who wants to bet that in umpteen something years after CFL has been outdated, we will be finding out that CFL is worse for the environment than incandescent after all?
