Good price on those babies.
My fastenall store sucks but maybe I should give them a chance. They expected me to know all their products and looked at me like deer in headlights.
I asked for a line card catalog but that didn't go over. They're used to construction dudes buying the same crap over and over. Probably why I avoid most city desks, I don't know the product very well and the vendors most of use online have what I need mostly.

Re: Board Stand Offs
I had the same experience at my local store so I buy them all online, takes awhile to find what I need however.

Re: Board Stand Offs
Bob, I use these I got them from ebay a few years ago and there running out can't remember the cost but they were not cheap but work well, there brass threaded on both ends and take a 4-40 screw and being brass they kinda lock in when you tighten them in, there 1/4 inch long so with my boards that puts the board height about 3/8, I've used nylon spacer also which work out well, What id like too have is one end male too put through the chassis and the other female to screw down through the board but there hard to find in the right height, I may have to look up the ebay seller and order somemore of these mark

Hey guys, thought I'd throw out this public service announcement: At Fastenal, the 3/8" 6-32 aluminum standoffs are $.0402 each on clearance! Get a bag of 100 for $4.02, instead of the typical price of $30.31! Linky:

Thanks for the link, Johnny. Interesting mix of extremely expensive and very cheap pricing...

1/4" vinyl tubing; Home Depot sells you 20 feet for $3.
Just slice off what you need.

Yeah, I realized on a recent order that I didn't get these, so I just happened to be browsing today. Sorry to kinda necro an old post, but I like to use the search function before posting random stuff. I like to keep info together when possible.

Re: Board Stand Offs
I use the old school style hexagonal section aluminum #6 threaded standoffs with stainless KEPS nut and machine screw from Watts Audio, in 1/2" and 1/4" lengths. The screws are long enough for 1/8" thick chassis, which I use a lot.
Because of the internal threading they don't work loose. See pic. (The screw is not black these days but stainless).
Not cheap but they are real solid.

Re: Board Stand Offs
I just ordered 100 of those Fastenal 3/8" standoffs.
Since I'm in Canada they sent my order to their "international service organization""...someone will contact you...". No guarantees on price, delivery, anything at all. We shall see, this sounds pretty clunky to me, but they don't have my money yet, so no damage yet.

Re: Board Stand Offs
I have a coffee can full of old ceramic standoffs salvaged from old radio gear. They look pretty classy, but I haven't ever used them for a guitar amp build. They have the little fiber washers to keep them from cracking when tightening the hardware (you still have to be careful not to over-tighten).
For my builds, I actually use the aluminum standoffs from the hardware store, pre-threaded for #6 screws.

Don't you boys know any NICE songs?
