I wonder 1) if they've found a current workalike varistor and 2) if so, if they are going to do like Gibson with the fraudulent "bumblebee" caps of potting something else on top to make it look like the original or proprietary.

Looks like I have a stake in this too - a friend just gave me an MP-1. Just took the chassis out of the cab to go through it. Needs e caps before I power it up - all original, despite other minor repairs and newer tubes. Don't yet know if the vibrato circuit works...

Very cool that these are being brought back.
I hope they do well and can make them for a long time.

Better buy one while they are hot. I have a feeling the good stuff goes bye bye the minute early peeps buy one and then Fender buys them and turns all the designs into modeling amps.

in case anyone skipped the OP's link:

...the new Magnatone line of amps – 100% tube powered, handmade with point-to-point wiring, made in the USA.

A 260 is gonna be expensive :!: Someone on the Hoffman forum said it'll be with new orig style varistors. Bet that's true as a boutique USA hand wired Magnatone with a workaround wouldn't have much cachet. And I doubt they want the competition from other boutiquers and won't be throwing them around. Bet they'll be expensive and only through service, but you never know, maybe they were forced to order 10,000 minimum :D Or if anyone in China knows the OEM I'm sure some under the table lucre will get you a suitcase full  Anyway, if I had to pay $80 for a set of varistors to build my own 260 I likely would.

I paid a lot for a pair of varistors off ebay, oh well, at least the hunt is over on those.

I plan to build the 214 version with 12Au7 for the vibrato circuit. Not sure if I will bend up a sloped chassis like the original or use a box type chassis.

I think PTP rather then tone board as well. Cabinet is underway I'm told, more later.

Anyone else building one of these?

Ok. Nevermind. I figured that was coming though. I have less money in good guitars.

Jees. The proud. :)

Meh. Build your own stereo combo with a mono send/stereo return Dumbleator, with a special holder on top for the Macbook Pro you'd be able to buy with the savings.

Then build one of these and get both stereo vibrato and phasing:
