If it has a effects loop run a guitar plug in and out of the send and return jacks very fast about ten times and then see if it makes the problem end.
When I die, I want to go like my Grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep.
Not screaming like the passengers in his car!
Cutting out a man's tongue does not mean he’s a liar, but it does show that you fear the truth he might speak about you!

I bought a couple of these a few years ago, ostensibly just for those heavy duty Peavey EV12L clone speakers. Hooked up the 60 a few weeks ago and wasn't as keen on the overdrive sound as I was in 1995, so I went on the internet and found a couple of mods that really improve the voicing.
Mod 1 takes only a minute to do. There are 2 reversed diodes connected between preamp tubes V2A and V2B that are there to provide distortion, ala some Marshall amps. All you have to do is put a wire jumper across each of them,....really improves the distortion tones.
There is also a mod that enables the eq controls to function in all three modes. It's a little tough to figure out,...but worth the time if you can read a schematic and follow the PCB trace drawings.

So I downloaded the schematic to do the jumper mod. It is true ,the distortion on this amp is so dark and muddy on channels 2&3. The Bright button does not work on them at all. So,without my Boss effect , the distortion is good ,but not nasty! I am going to do the jumper mod first, but I think I really need to just get a new pedal.Seeing how expensive single pedals are ,I will be looking at maybe a used Boss ME-80,or used GT-10. Now that the newer models came out ,those are a bit cheaper. My ME-33 is on its last leg. Very primitive & outdated.
Jumper mod
So I cut the jumper behind the 250K pot ,the one that was supposed to allow the EQ to work on channels 2-3,and I really didnt notice any difference, but it ruined channel 1 clean.I normally use the amp on the clean channel with my Boss ME-33,and after the mod,it sounded all tinny, and squealish, thin ,not punchy anymore. I soldered the jumper back together. I guess it isn't for everyone. I am pretty sure that I will need to get a better set of effects to use this amp to its full potential. I am going to try a tube screamer to beef up channel 3.
