Curiosity got the best of me and I degooped my pedal. The only thing I damaged were a couple of Red LEDs, but those are easily replaceable. I used some Klean-Strip KS-3 paste over several days of brushing away with a paintbrush. It was tedious but I couldn't stop myself from trying it. I found the main OPAMP chip and I'm going to install a socket and swap a few different chips to see how it sounds.
EDIT: I put it back and it works again. now even more open and less muffled sounding......
Here are a couple of pics of the the process using the Klean-Strip paste in case anyone ever goes this route. It will take the markings off the resistors, take the plastic off from the round caps, and melt the LEDs, but the other parts held up well. It did take a few days off and on with patience. I mostly just used a paintbrush and small screwdriver to pick away.
