PRPs are supposed to be quiet. Hi gain build...
PRPs were also on sale for like 50% off about 2mos ago so i loaded up on hi watt PRPs
Plus red on black is nice looking. Damn eyelets ruining my mojo shoulda used turrets!

Re: HRP Series
Thanks Surfsup
I have used them in the past but not for the entire build so that's why I'm curious
They work well for noise in the Plate resistor spot
Where did you get them?
I get mine from Partsconnexion in Canada

.........Now where did I put it?
Re: HRP Series
50% off crap if I had known that I would have bought some as well.
Re: HRP Series
Well getting some more done on this amp.

Re: HRP Series
Mark, I'm watching your thread closely.
I'm a bit shy of putting high voltage on a coax shield and want to know if you can make this amp work without it.

Re: HRP Series
I finished the amp Monday or Tuesday and other then having found a 470K instead of 470R in my PI and then had to reverse the OT primary wires to stop the squeeling all is well
I only have the effects loop and Resonate to wire up. The amp has so much balls, cleans up well for soft touch playing and then crank the knobs and/or flip the mid switch and boost switch for even more AFD tones.
The only shielded wire so far is the input to V1. I may use shield for the effects loop or not, will see. The B+ is 453v to the plates if I remember correctly nothing unusual. I have a pair of KT120 tubes I want to run 1000v on if I get the time to build it and order transformers some day.

Re: HRP Series
Finished up the amp tonight. This is my first attempt at a loaded Marshall like this, very good amp, glad I decided to build Stephan's DBM #39 and added the resonance pot.
Work is crude as I had never built this type of circuit before, don't zoom in too close.

Re: HRP Series
I'm quite interested. I was going to build an Emplexador with 6v6's and the switchable modern gain stage but this sounds really good too. I got a little bored with my Mark Huss plexi. I tried six different transformer combos and I just don't get all that much gain out of it. Just kind of flubby in the bass department. I'm sure it's my mistake as others seem to really like it.
Do you have the surf's up layout you spoke of ?
I would like to see it.as I was thinking maybe a 25 watter.

A 25w would be a great platform for this circuit I think.

Put the amp into a cab tonight.

Re: HRP Series
Mark, is it me or does anyone else think you are way too fast.
You do great work. I am jealous.
Mark says hmmm........ I like how that clip sounds, look look here is most of a schematic.....
I build stuff too, but five projects at a time and it takes a year to get them all done.Oh, here is a picture of the amp in a custom cab I just built from a 12th century church door that Martin Luther nailed something or other too ,
before he got famous...

Re: HRP Series
Still working on the door project, seriously, a friend gave me a door from an old bank building south of Phoenix. A huge door solid oak. In August my wife rediscovers it in our shop and says you need to build a back-bar or something out of that old door.
I have way too many amps and my friends know how many I have the last time inventory was taken. I just sent one out this week to Nashville so minus one
Stealing tubes from one or two other amps to test the new amps is my current problem.
I am taking donations on tubes. Send me the one's you hate like current production JJs, EH, Sovtek, etc. I hear grumbling on those they could just as well be used in my amps.

Re: HRP Series
I used to think I had too many tubes. I had enough to fill a plastic storage crate when I lived in Mesa AZ.
I went to Antique electronic supply in Tempe all the time. Before I went back to school I would get NOS RCA for $5 each.
They would let me go back there and cherry pick. This was about 1994. There were some really nice people back then.
I have the problem now where I don't have enough tubes for all my amps so they get shuffled and blended and re rolled. Bad way to waste an afternoon.
I have had good luck with Russian tubes from fleabay. It's fun to get small packages from REALLY far away written in cyrillic.
Also I think the organ amps have gotten too expensive for what can honestly be used.
Tubes my be my limiting factor. Lucky there are still lots of undiscovered tube types out there.

Re: HRP Series
When I lived in Gilbert, AZ 2003 -2006 I wasn't building amps and didn't even know about all the good business places in Phoenix area until I moved to Minnesota.
I may just have to move back to the warm weather.
I plan to go visit every old repair place I know and retired techs I know this spring and summer for a resistor, capacitor and tube run.
