IMHO, your description of what you want is not describing a Trainwreck. I don't have personal experience with the other two circuits, but looking a the schematics, I don't think either of those will do it either. I'm sure others who know better than me will chime in.
I don't think lots of gain and "great full cleans with sparkle and chime" go together particularly well. For what you describe, what comes to mind is a Fender Twin and use a pedal to thicken it up for that "smooth "blues-like" overdrive with that "singing" quality."

Re: ,......
The Ceriatone Express is loud, gets dirty very low on the volume dial and you have to control the amp with your guitar volume. By changing tubes to different gain tubes of the 12A_7 variety you can change how soon the gain will occur. It requires no pedals nor does the Express like pedals. You should use the best tubes you can afford and NOS or old used tubes work the best in this amp to keep the rushing high gain noise down plus the tone is better with the old tubes (NOS).
The Rocket is the amp you are describing for clean, chime and blues. It also takes pedals well. It gets its own distortion or gain as higher levels which may or may not suit well for gigging. I use a pedal board with this amp.
The Liverpool is chimey, has gain and loud as hell.
I do not have any experience with the Overtone Special.

Re: Convince Me....(Dumble or Trainwreck)
What you're describing IMHO is Dumble. Personally I'd go with the Brownnote.net D-Lite over the Overtone, simply because Moss and Norm have spent countless hours refining the Dumble like tone from the amp.Rouse94 wrote:I'm looking for great full cleans with sparkle and chime and really smooth "blues-like" overdrive with that "singing" quality.
You'll get nice chimey cleans and smooth as glass overdrive at the push of a footswitch.
Re: ,......
Not a whole lot of gain, I was thinking that if a Ceriatone Rock It! could do this, its perfect.Phil_S wrote:IMHO, your description of what you want is not describing a Trainwreck. There is no way I'm paying 2k for an amp. Ceriatone's OTS is around $1400 shipped, which is still expensive. Besides, I've heard the ceriatone sound better on Youtube (compressed) than the sound clips Brown Note had on their website.
Right now I'm leaning towards a Rock It! w/ an attenuator because I've always liked AC30 cleans better than Fender and that Youtube video really convinced me with its super smooth and singing like quality durring the overdrive section. If someone who has played a Ceriatone Rock It! could confirm it sounds generally like that youtube video, no doubt its the amp for me. Don't me wrong, Dumbles sound amazing, but a Rocket might suit my playing style better.
Re: ,......
If you're judging tones based on YouTube clips, uh, I'd say you need to rethink that strategy.
Based on what you said you are looking for, I would also recommend a D'Lite kit.
You described what you want. Multiple people suggested a D'Lite. Nobody suggested a 'Wreck. Yet you are pursuing a 'Wreck-style amp anyway. Interesting.
I hope you find the tone you are searching for.

Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

Re: ,......
the dumbles are way more versatile too, with the bright, deep, rock/jazz and normal eq you can definatly coax some vox like cleans(or better) out of it not to mention the PAB is very handy

Re: ,......
If you are going AC30 also check out Weber. I think it is the 6V30 kit. Never tried either myself - just trading cost vs features.Rouse94 wrote:Right now I'm leaning towards a Rock It! w/ an attenuator because I've always liked AC30 cleans <snip>

No one who has posted in this topic seems to have experience with both of the amps that I'm debating, which was why I made this topic, not for people to say one is better than the other even though they have only played one of the two (if that).mlp-mx6 wrote:If you're judging tones based on YouTube clips, uh, I'd say you need to rethink that strategy.

The D'lite is $2200 for a 22w amp, I'm not paying that much for an amp. The OTS is $1400 for a 50w amp (shipped) which is more reasonable. Besides, the D'Lite is Dumble inspired, the OTS is a clone of Dumble (the best that they could do anyways). In my opinion, I don't see a single thing the D'Lite has over the Ceriatone.
The reason the 'Wrecks are so appealing to me is because of their simplicity and dynamics (clean to overdrive with a turn of the volume knob, no pedals to press). I might go with the OTS, but I wish there was a way to A/B them before I pay over $1000 for an amp.
I hope I'm not sounding rude, but this is an important decision, lots of money being spent.
Re: ,......
I know that $2000 seems like a lot of money for an amp but in reality it is not for a custom hand built amp like the D'Lite. The Ceriatone is cheaper but I am not sure if it is superior. I've played a ODS just never built one and they are very versitile amps.
Also if you go around buying a lot of amps like I have done then $2000 for a amp that will be your one and only amp is not bad.
If you are going to build your own then a Ceriatone kit or source your own for around $600 without cabinet.
The Rockit will be a good amp I enjoy the Rocket I built but it is no way as loaded as the D'lite.

The ceriatones can be hand built by ceriatone w/ a head cabinet for not much more money than a kit, the OTS is around $1400 shipped and the Rock It! is around $1000 shipped.M Fowler wrote:I know that $2000 seems like a lot of money for an amp but in reality it is not for a custom hand built amp like the D'Lite. Since you own a Rock It! could you describe the overdrives of it in comparison to an ODS? And just how similar is the tone compared to that video? I know its youtube, but its all I've got...
Re: ,......
There is no comparison the ODS is superior in every way.
I use the Rocket as a Vox AC30 type chime for clean 50/60's rock songs and pedal board to get my distortion at lower volumes. The Rocket will get some good natural compression but had too high a volume for me to use in that way.
