Loose Power Tube Bases

Post by David Root »

I was checking thru my stock a few days ago and came across two power tubes with slightly loose bases. One is a Shuguang 6L6GC, not too concerned about that one, but the other one is a (used) 1960 RCA black plate 6L6GC, long glass, marked Conn, which I AM concerned about.

Anyone had any failures with this defect? I wouldn't want to put them in a gigging amp but would they be OK otherwise?

Would putting a little CA glue between the base and the glass be a good idea?

I've used super glue before to glue on the locating key and a loose base before.
I made sure to let it sit aside for a couple days before using it.
No issues that I have seen.

Don't let that smoke out!
