Two Tube Tweed Amp Reverb (2T Tar)

Post by tubeswell »

Thought I'd let you peeps know that I have finally successfully prototyped a 2 pre-amp tube reverb circuit in my tweed bassman build in such a way that seems to preserve the mojo of the original amp (i.e. without detracting noticeably from the signal quality), and in such a way as to be as economical as possible of the heater supply (okay so its not as economical as a 1-tube 'verb - but its got more dingle than that).

Its not all that revolutionary - in fact its a hotch potch of a 6G15 circuit, and BF style reverb.

Okay so its a bit more fiddly than a Dumble style one tube 'verb, and you have to have space for 2 pre-amp tubes as well as three control pots. But it has quite dynamic Dwell, Mix and Tone controls (that actually do something to the sound), and only uses 2 pre-amp tubes (so it is economical on the heater winding) and can be run with a small BF type Fender RT, and most importantly has bucket loads of reverb and dynamics

I got lots of encouragement from the regulars at the MEF. Special mention also has to go to Simcha Delft for sagely and helpful comments about the impedance and gain structure of the circuit. (Thanks M8 :-)

I would go so far as to say that this type of reverb would probably work well in any tweed-style amp (that has enough heater current, and physical space to accommodate the bits and pieces) without affecting the tweed mojo. Try it at your own risk

It looks very similar to what I do with JTM & some Tweed circuits as well but I put mine between the tone stack & PI input to further not impede the tweed preamp gain structure & tone. Great job!
