I finally got around to converting an old wards airline PA head to something
for guitar or harp. I had planed to use 6sn7, but found more better gain and
tone with 6sl7. It's two gain stages in front of a self balancing paraphase inverter.
Really close to a fender 5d5, 5d4, 5d8 etc.. It has a 5z3 rectifier, which was replaced
by the 5u4g. I was a cheapskate and used all 500k pots for the volume and tones.
I'll see if I regret it, but its a nice sounding rig on first fire up. Tomorrow is
the go thru it for voltages day and check the bias, it still runs on it late 40's
power side, nice. For kicks I tried that old traynor treble and bass from the
guitarmate scheme, so far so good. Try to post pics soon.

Re: nice old amp
Here's the bit that counts. Its the sub chassis that holds the pre-amp inside
the box, the top three knobs on the exterior shot. I had to use Les Paul knobs
to extend nicely through the shell. I had to insure a good ground too, the
old chassis paint is tough. The topography and circuit is my own. The amp
came with a full compliment 0f 6J7 (I have the tube caps and plate clips if anyone
is desperate), and was not practical to salvage along with all the circuit components.
The iron is good, and the 6L6G still sound good.
