Why the corssover?

Post by MBD115 »

Hay guys

I know, another stupid question, but one that I can't seem to find the answer too.

Why the crossover? For instance - the Rocket takes the signal through two gain stages of a 12AX7 tube (V1b and V1a) then the signal is crossed-over from the plate side (+) of the tube to the ground side (-) in V2a. Why the crossover to the ground side?

Would someone please explain.

Thanks, I know I'm stupid but I can't help it. :D

here is a little example of what I'm talking about.

Well that's not exactly what's happening.

What you have here is two different types of amp stages. The first 2 are common cathode gain stages. The signal goes into the grid and out of the plate amplified. The 3rd is a cathode follower. The signal goes in the grid and out of the cathode at approx the same level but with a lower impedance.

Check out http://www.aikenamps.com and click on the tech info. Lots of good information in there.
