Alright, I have another problem, and I'm scratching my head. I've got another donor amp that I'm working on(victor Kalart model 70-15). It has a strange speaker jack set-up. It is an old projector amplifier from the 60's and it works pretty darn good the way it is. The schematics show two taps coming out, and the speaker configuration for it is: 1-8ohm speaker in the cabinet. And the optional extension cabinet is also an 8-ohm. So, I figured it would have either 4and 8 ohm taps or 8 and 16, depending on the jack wiring. When I took it apart I found it a little strange. Each jack is separate. Each comes directly from one of the taps from the output transformer ???
Now my question. Can a transformer have two separate 8-ohm outputs? I know I'm missing something, but I've been staring at this thing too long....I have the schematic, but it's a huge file including different models and all the projectors included.
weird output taps on old amp?

Re: weird output taps on old amp?
I was looking at a schematic for that, is yours a 6L6 amp or 6973 output tubes?
The print I am looking at really doesn't give the impedance but rather the DC resistance of the taps.
I think it says .19 ohms and shows a black, green and yellow wire.
I don't know how they would have two 8 ohm taps unless they are two distinct windings on the secondary.

Re: weird output taps on old amp?
If you have access to a signal generator it might be worth while to test the
tranny. Put a 1v ac signal across the secondary and measure the resultant
signal across the primary. It would tell you the turns ratio and impedance
ratios for each. there's a good explanation at Aiken Amplification, in the tech section.

Where I got the two 8-ohm taps was from the specifications for the speakers. Both the in-cabinet speaker, and the "accessory" out board speakers are rated for 8-ohm???? They both have two-pronged cords that plug into the jacks on the amp. Just like regular two pronged ac outlets(now there's an accident waiting to happen!) It is the amp with the 6973's. This is rather strange to me.
Re: weird output taps on old amp?
Based on the schematic it noted green wire .19 ohm total impedence. and further notes show the OT is 8 ohm. Two 8 ohm speakers for a total load of 4 ohms.
