Train wreck express extra stage?
Hey there, does anyone do anything with that extra stage of the 12ax7 thats left over (eg 3 stage pre amp- one triode not used). What would adding another do? Thanks

Hey thanks, lots of food for thought. The cascode seems like a cool idea. Ithink this is what I'll try. Seems like a waste to leave it there not used. I also read on one of the links that someone made a tremolo with one triode? possible?
Re: Train wreck express extra stage?
I used the basics from the 6g3 Deluxe's trem.

I'm using 6v6s. EL34s might need a stronger 2 triode trem. I tapped off the B+2 node that the 6v6's screens are on. The node is 343v on mine. All my PS voltages are lower than typical Expresses since I use the lower HT tap on the toneslut power tranny. I got lucky with 204v on the trem's plate with a target of 205v from the 6g3 scheme. I don't think the added current draw would change the other plate voltages much but you could experiment.
Mine has less trem effect when playing loud, (as does my Vibro Champ.) It's actually kinda cool when the trem becomes more noticeable as a note/chord decays. When playing quiet or moderate the effect is adequately strong.

If it says "Vintage" on it, -it isn't.
