Silvertone 1457: is this some weird repair?

Post by nee »

Greetings! I've been looking inside my Silvertone 1457 "amp in a case" as the tremolo hasn't been working for some time. There are a couple of things which look odd to my - admittedly pretty inexperienced - eye.

On the tremolo 12AX7, there's a 10uf/450V cap connected from pin 6 directly to ground.

On the preamp 12AX7, there's a 47uf/350V cap connected from before the plate resistor directly to ground.

I can see no mention of these caps on the schematic I have. Could they be an attempt at replacing the can capacitors? Or an attempt at reducing hum?

Thanks!

While I cannot offer much assistance on repairs for this unit, I do have one in very good working order. Let me know if you need a gut shot at some point.
