Another Gretsch Amp

Nice work on the Gretsch cleanup posted by gahult.

My little Gretsch looked like it had been submerged at one point, so it did not clean up as nice. It did not work, so it also required an electrical overhaul.

Wow. I'm envious. Looks like something you used to see at garage sales. Sadly no more.

Don't recall where this came from initially, but my brother gave it to me. I suspect he did not pay anything for it (back in the 80s).

It does sound much better than my little tweed Champ. I don't know why, perhaps it is because I replaced all resistors and capacitors, whereas the Champ is 100% original (contrary to 'vintage tone' theory...:) )

That champ looks 'cleaned up' but, honestly, I have never cleaned it. I opened it up once and it looks 'factory new' inside, like a time capsule! One of these days I'm going to take a bunch of photographs of it to document what these things looked like originally. It may have bad caps, but, since I have a few other small amps already, I'm just keeping it as a collector's item and NOT re-capping it or molest it in any way.

I got that Champ from my brother also, but he had to buy it originally. $5.00 at a garage sale. This was back in the 70s. I remember it was a cool find, but still only worth about $25-$30 at the time.
