Weber Halle Build

Post by wingnut1 »

Hi everyone, just finished building a Weber Halle kit. I used 6PS OD caps, ceramic disc caps and Vishay Dale Resistors on the grids. I changed the master volume to a dual pot PPIMV and added a PAB.

I've never heard a Dumble amp live nor do I like the speakers in the cab i have all that well (Celestion G12T-75), but I do like this amp. It has nice cleans to a nice overdrive on the clean channel and a nice overdrive to over the top distortion on the overdrive channel. The tone stack is very interactive. I have to play around with the controls a lot more to really discover everything the amp can do. Here is a link to pictures of the build.

Congrats on the build. I've looked over the Halle schematic and where it's not a Dumble, it looks like a pretty cool amp.

Personally I like carbon comp resistors on the grids, and Vishay Dales on the plates.

How about some clips?

Thanks Bob, give me some time to get to know the amp and I'll be glad to post some clips. I know you guys like to make changes to fine tune your amps and I might be looking for advice once I get there.

Does look like a cool schematic. I'd be interested in your review.

Still playing around with the amp and I have a quick question about the PAB in Dumble ODS amps. How much does the PAB effect the amp when engaged. With this amp I get slightly more gain and slightly more volume. Is that what I should expect?

Here is a link to some sound samples of the Halle. He doesn't kick into the OD channel until half way through each clip and the PAB towards the end.

Sounds like a cool amp. I'll stick to my original statement that it's not a Dumble but it's pretty cool sounding. Dumble's have a distinct lower midrange charactor.

I know it's not a Dumble, but I'm running it through a 1960A cab with G12T-75 Speakers and the guy who was playing it cut back on the midrange and bass on the clean channel and somewhat on the over drive channel. I think you would have to play it through your speaker setup and tweak the preamps yourself before you could say if it can sound close or not.

The circuit board is rather tight, partly because I changed the PPIMV which took up more room. It's also a bit tight to get to solder some of the pots.

Thanks for the compliments.
