Ceritone DC-30 Help :: Build Info

Post by fuadramsey »

I have just finished putting together my C-30 head from Ceritone. There is one problem, and I'm not sure where to start looking...

The Master knob seems to be not working. It will sometimes engage, but most of the time it is off even when pulled out. It does come on once in a while, but it is very random. It does not come on when I move the knob back and fourth, so it does not sound like something is loose. Its connections are very good. When it does work, it only changes the sound up to about 11:00 My first guess is that the switch is bad. Is there anything else that I should worry about or check?

This is my first amp build, so any help or advice would be great.

Thanks. Anthony

You could test the switch easily but connecting a jumper with alligator clips across it.

For the intermittent problems (which can be hard to trace) double check all the solder connections on the circuit that is affected.
Look for tiny whiskers of wire that may be shorting a control.
With the amp on and practicing good safety measures, take a chop stick and poke around the suspected area.

Tom,
It seems like bypassing the switch is fine. In fact it is bypassed almost all of the time. I am having a hard time engaging the switch and keeping it engaged (it disengages on its own) usually after a few seconds. When it is engaged, it sounds fine. I checked all of the connections going from the switch all the way to the tube sockets and all looks good.

So it sounds like you need a new switched pot.
