Fuse Value

Post by Guitarman18 »

Having recently compiled a list of parts for my latest build I couldn't help but wonder.....

When switching voltages from 117v to 230v (i.e. US to European supply) should one adjust the value of the power fuse used? :?

Components such as switches are often rated 120v/6A or 240v/3A, which made me think.

If anyone can help with this one I would be grateful.

Cheers, Paul.

Yes. Ohms Law says Power = Volts x Amperes. For the same amp:

120 x 6 = 720 Watts

240 x 3 = 720 Watts

Many thanks ampdoc, it's reassuring to think my suspicions were correct.

What I find interesting, is that all the 'export' amps I've owned have selectable voltages but make no reference to changing the fuse value on the back panel.
Perhaps this was mentioned in the manuals, but with 60's & 70's gear, there is a very slim chance of ever seeing them.

Ohm's law is Ohms=Volts/Ampere.

The power equation is named after James Watt.
If it says "Vintage" on it, -it isn't.
