What do you all do with extra parts and prototype leftovers?

Post by tonejunkie »

Hey folks,
I used to spend countless hours on this forum back in the day, digging through threads for information, schematics, and general amp-building fun. I learned a ton here, and now I’m back doing a little shop cleanup and could use some advice.

I’ve got a mix of extra amplifier parts and some components from a few prototype builds that didn’t make it into final versions. Curious what others usually do with this kind of stuff.

Do you sell your parts (transformers, chassis, boards, etc.) on eBay, Reverb, or somewhere else? Or do you prefer to keep them for future experiments or trade with other builders?

I’m debating whether to list some things individually or maybe bundle parts by project type. I’d love to hear how you all handle surplus or unused gear and what’s worked best for you.

Thanks!

Surplus? SURPLUS?????

Those are your "Hey - I might have something in the bins that would work and I won't have to order stuff at midnight on Friday night" stock.

Sort them into bins and types so you can find them, and only resort to getting rid of them if too much space is used up by the "ready spares" stock - which is how I think of them.

I dunno, I'm trying to use up stuff from decades of building things. I finally got around to a couple of restorations that turned out great, that have been waiting for over 20 years to get done.

Now I'm building an ODS on a Weber JTM45 style chassis that's been used for several builds, none of which were JTM45's.

My goal is not to buy anything for this build, just use stuff I have laying around.

Maybe I'll sell some completed projects. I'm not "old" yet, but I'm getting there. Trying not to leave a huge mess for my heirs.

The most important parts are PT and OT, when you have both that agree with the require of a schematic you have you can start a new project
