Sovtek Mig 60 Recap

Post by Mars_Amp_Repair »

Hello all,
Posting a recent Sovtek Mig 60 recap as it was a rather involved job. The original cap-cans mount with just a hole, so using aftermarket cap-cans is infeasible. I left the original cap-cans in to maintain the originality of the amp. BTW, it took about 6hrs total to complete.

Nice work, Mig amps can be tricky and some of the parts are a bit fragile. It looks like you missed the bias caps and a cathode bypass cap. I would also recommend adding some silicone to the radials with longer leads. Sometimes the leads can snap after a while if they aren't supported.

Hello Maxkracht,
Good eye. Yeah,
I took the pic before I replaced the balance of the electrolytics just to show the main cap replacement. As I recall there was also one cathode bypass cap on V2.

Did you change out the pots yourself, or did that happen before it got into your hands?

I have an early Mig 50 that will need an overhaul soon and it has the old pots that are prone to failure but have the small diameter shafts (ha!) on them. As far as I know the best solution is to drill out larger holes on the chassis and faceplate but there isn't a ton of info out there on these guys.
