CTS 450 series potentiometers

Post by Colossal »

Does anybody happen to know what the taper is for the CTS 450 series audio/log pots? The CTS J tapers are 30% and they come on a bit too fast for a Tweed Deluxe.

Thanks.

Standard CTS audio taper is 10%, the J tapers are probably a special order.

Thank you, Pete! I've used the J tapers in Dumbles and they are fine there but too fast for a Tweed Deluxe, IME/O.

I've read good reports of TOCOS audio pots as having smooth taper. It's described as being 'logerithmic' which kinda implies 10%.

I ordered a bunch when they came out and was quite dismayed that their measured vs. stated, nominal value wasn't great! They are supposed to be +/- 10% but many that I received were well outside that range. I'll have to go look and see what I have...

I really like(d) PEC 2W RV4 (S24 short shaft) pots, but the prices just shot through the roof in the last decade and now no one bothers to carry them. You can still find them at Digikey but the shafts are longer. I bought them way back when for maybe $8 or $9USD apiece and now they are $29   Good luck with that PEC. But they were 10% log taper and excellent :(
