old wheelchair lift

Post by Andy Le Blanc »

Ive scrounged what appears to be an old wheelchair lift
its 26"x26" and is .125 aluminum
and the tax fairy left a 36" metal brake
it looks like I can get a couple chassis out of it
2"H x 7"W x 22"L
the last few years I've scraped up a marshall 100w opt
a pt from an old 200w tubed PA head that ran 4 6550
and this winter, got lucky, and ended up with an old floor moniter
that held a JBL E120-8 in mint shape
the published information for the OPT
is making it look like Ill be able to use an 8 ohm load
on the 4 ohm secondary and end up with an effective load resistance
close to the published RCA and GE values
It should develope 60 to 80 watts when biased to a modest 50%
of max plate dissapation dependending on the voltage conditions
acheived by the power supply

so my load is pretty well defined
Ill follow up with numbers after a bit
but I still have questions:

what would be the best application for the speaker?
open cabinet or closed cabinet?
I like a combo but with the weight as an issue Im leaning
toward a closed and seprate cab

any opinions on current production 6550's?
I love NOS but want to use the new

whats your favorite phase inverter?
Ill need to make 40 to 65V (rms) to drive the 6550s
AB for desired output watts.
