What is this Rocking Class OT I have here?

Post by Gainzilla »

Hey all,

I got a pair of transformers I thought (ie, was told) were trainwreck spec transformers from Pacific. THey've sat on my Tranny shelf for a couple years. I finally got around to looking up the spec sheet for a build I had planned, and couldn't find them. I called Pacific and was eventually able to get one of their engineers, who sent me the spec sheets. The PT, looks like it could be used for a wreck. But that's not why I'm here. The OT looks like maybe a single ended something or other? No center tap. I have no idea how many watts it's good for. Can anyone make anything of this?

Thanks,
Bryce

That diagram is definitely showing a single ended transformer.

Yup it's SE and judging by its size I want to say it's good to 8 watts, maybe a tad more.

With its 6k primary it's for a 6v6 and with that impedance and about 250 volts you would have 4.5 watts.

Hello --

Check out RockingClassElectronics' youthful braggadocious "originals" posting from 2014. Given it's a PacTran internal line, perhaps they should cough up more detailed specs for electrical properties and target performance -- at minimum they should be abie to give you the max DC current and primary inductance, along with basic target power out for a given frequency band, etc...

General agreement with you, Steve. Though at 6K an interesting SE transformer to mate with el34/kt77 at a higher voltage (eg, 375-400VDC) and based on the core size and comparing with old Allen Amps 10W SE (for the Chihuahua) and current Edcor should be close to 15 Watts.

Best ..

Thanks for the info, all. Holy cr@p, that thread is like 15 pages long! I messaged Dave on his Rocking Class Facebook site, and he messaged me back only just saying that it was a Ken Fisher prototype. Based on the size I figured maybe 8-10 watts. 6V6 or similar? Ok, that sounds interesting. I guess maybe some kind of TW Champ? Hmmm...

If you trust it’s truly Trainwreck proto, think DLM ..
