Need to rewire a Fender super reverb pedal

Post by bentonar18 »

I have a blackface Super Reverb I am resuscitating, and it's time to fix the original pedal that came with it. Looks like it uses regular old male RCA tips, but...I've never seen owned or even used a Super before. The cable has two wires in it, one is shielded. I assume that each wire gets soldered into the RCA tip, and then the shield gets soldered to the outside of one of the RCA plugs, but...is it the Vib wire, or the Reverb wire that needs the shield? Thanks, guys.

By the way, this Super Reverb sounds KILLER even without using the reverb or Vib effects!

Reverb wire gets the shield. The way the switch is set up, the wire to the switch is actually in the grid circuit of the reverb recovery tube so there's a lot of potential for noise is it isn't shielded.

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe the reverb is shielded and the shield is soldered to the outside of the plug so it will be grounded when plugged in.

The vibrato switch merely shorts hot to ground - the shield is hooked to both switch's
The reverb switch uses a shielded cable (the shield and one hot), and
hitting the switch clses the circuit so that shield and hot are
connected.
