Chinese Hammond transformers

Post by maxkracht »

I got a transformer in the mail and thought Hammond's QC had slipped, then I noticed the made in China tag. Is this new, or just certain models? I have never noticed a non-Canadian Hammond transformer before. These are different models, but a similar enough.

Did you order it direct from Hammond, or from on line middle man?

It would not surprise me one little big if the Cicoms were making Hammond knock offs until they get notified of a pending lawsuit, as working for a company as I do that makes audio gear I see this all the time!

Hammond has had Chinese manufacturing for at least 10 years. I have only noted it with power transformer in their 16xxx line, and not always.

Yes if you stick to there Guitar line of replacement Transformers (Power, output and chokes ) its still made in Canada. There 200 series and 300 series power transformers and 1700 series output transformers are also still made in Canada.
If you search there site for a transformer and click the pdf, the sticker on the transformer is visible and it will say if its made in Canada.

Cheers

The pdfs for the two above filament transformers don't show any stickers or anything else to indicate mfg country.

Yep, nothing in the datasheets for those individual filament transformers, or the 166 series datasheet, but it does have a made in China sticker if you click the thumbnail picture on their website. Even the one pictured on their website looks a bit crusty compared to the made in Canada version. Guess it's luck of the draw when ordering...
