Modifying Holland lil jimi to sound more like BF Fender?

Post by jackzucker2000 »

Hi Guys,

I recently picked up a 50w Holland Lil Jimi 1x12 combo. It has the big, super reverb sized OT and I assume is putting high voltage on the plates of the power and preamp tubes (haven't taken measurements). When I compare it to a BF fender, it seems to be much brighter and less fatness on the treble strings. I have to keep the presence and treble extremely low to keep the amp from being so piercing. I also keep the shift control pretty low. I'm thinking I would like it a lot better if it were closer to an AB763 amp. Just wondering if one of you more experienced techs have some hints about changes I could make.

I found a layout diagram someone posted here some time ago.

For starters if you haven't already.
You might confirm it matches the layout you posted.
Maybe check/reflow all solder points for power supply caps, controls and grounds, it may just need some touchups. This is assuming the amp is an older build.
