6L6 SE instead of 5F1

Post by aj55 »

Dear all,
Question must have been posted before but I can't find it. I have build a 5F1 (heavily modified, tone stack etc) and I am very pleased with the result.
Now I want to build a 6L6 SE equivalent. Question: with a Princeton-like PT and a Hammond 125ESE am I going in the right direction? Are these the main difference as far as the 5F1 goes?
Cheers Arnold

ot is good up to 15w with 2k5 5k or 10k primary
pt should be just barely okay
6l6 data sheet has 350v plate 250v screen 4k2 primary impedance 10.8w 15%thd
I've got a similar build in my future. i plan to use CLC filter before first node. aes/cedist have a 90ma come for about ten bucks

Do you mean the original Champ PT is barely ok? A Princeton PT should be able to handle one 6L6 I thought....

Good example for the power section here: https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=33171 Uses the same OT, and a Princeton PT at 100mA for the HT should be fine.

Don't use a stock Champ power transformer it will runner hotter than the output valve. It will sound different, it won't have that 6V6 creaminess. I'd also use a more efficient speaker, Celestion blue would be great in this position.
Yours Sincerely
