HI
I have an acquaintance that have a box full of NOS Sovtek 5881 from 1993. Does anyone here know if they can take the plate voltage of 460-480?
I know the current 6L6WGC can handle it, but I'm not sure about the older ones. Anyone with insight on this matter?
Thanks!
J

I believe Marshall used 5881s around this time in all of their EL34 amps and so did Soldano. I looked up the Sovtek datasheet and it doesn't mention maximum plate voltage. Might be worth seeing if this valve has changed over the years, if it's the same valve they sell now then it should be fine.

Early 90's is when I started using the wafer-base Sovtek 5881's - in all sorts of amps. Never a problem. Tough as nails. And they were only $4 each, what a deal!
down technical blind alleys . . .
