George Scholz(sp?) currently (atleast still to my knowledge) produces HJ amps but retags them GS. George designed the 12" speakers which were in the HJ 4x12's and 2x12's. They are a much more of a Hi-Fi type of speaker. The leads to the voice coil actually attach on opposite sides so that the cone is more balanced under high loads. The speakers also have screw terminals to connect the wire.

I believe he just tweaked the HJ design a little bit more. Rich Robinson from the Black Crowes (as mentioned earlier) used to play HJ's quite a bit. Now he uses a bigger selection (Silver Jubilee, London 65, Tweed Fenders, HJ) and he has a ton others as well. One of his HJ 50's actually blew up at a show in NYC Central Park.

George has stated he has brought Rich's amps up to GS spec. I traded a few e-mails with him a year or so back. If I can find the address I'll post it if it is not against forums rules. So if anyone was interested in playing or getting one...

GS also designed the HJ cabs; he sells both now under the GS imprint. I've got one of his 2x12's and it is the most solid cab I've ever had/played/touched. Speakers are in that hifi vein.

The shortest signal path is the name of the game, baby!
Exactly.

Good wiring is not always "pretty" looking.

I think it's possible that someone could actually make the sound worse by trying to copy that style of wiring if a given amp just happened to work the way it was wired (in the non-Harry Joyce neato way)--whether this was intentional or not. Or say with bundling, tying wires together--something could be neater looking but worse performing depending on what exactly was done.

Nothing like wiring/lacing up a 'beauty-pageant' amp chassis, only to have to rip it apart to troubleshoot an oscillation.
