Operational Oddity with an ODS/EL34..

Post by AtomCap »

So, I was gigging and everything was going fine, running the EL34 ODS 100W outdoors for about 4-5 hours straight gigging, gave it a break on a set break, it was good until the last 5 minutes of the gig and it blew the main fuse, the whole amp was HOT, could barely touch the power transformer..

so, Got it home on the bench, popped a new fuse in, amp powered up fine, all voltages seem within normal operation..

anyone ever have an amp just shut down from heat, specially an ODS?

its really scarring me that everything seems ok inside, the amps working fine, but its again alarming that it shut off, never did this before and this wasn't its first gig...

apologies on vagueness, I'd give more info if I had it...
never been a believer of "Flukes" in electronics, other them a good DVM/Meter brand, it tends to either work or not..

any light or wisdom is much welcomed.

Thanks :)

If the amp has a HT fuse but did not blow that then you have your answer !
The main fuse blew due to a intermitant short in the PT and when the PT gets that hot again it will do the same thing and may stay shorted that time!
It's a crap shoot now as to when it will be full time toast!
