tube amp books
There are books that explain how to design amplifiers reading the datasheet?
chosing working class etc..?
Thanks all for the suggestions!

Thanks Tom , but I want to buy a book , don't want web info!

I'm not sure what you are asking.
You want to design tube amps by reading tube data sheets?
Not sure that is possible.
Sorry if I don't recognize your username but can you maybe be a bit clearer"?
If you want function and design knowledge, I would recommend
"Designing Tube Preamps for Guitar and Bass, 2nd Edition"
By Merlin Blencowe.
http://www.amazon.com/Designing-Valve-P ... 0956154522
He also has a power supply book.

Don't let that smoke out!

Re: tube amp books
Tom is referring to the Reading Material sticky. I believe there ar ie several recommendations in that thread. A few I have personal experience with I suggest are " Tube Guitar amplifiers" by Robert Megantz. "The Ultimate Tone" vol-3 By Kevin O'Conner .. . jack darr's "Repair of guitar amplifiers"?? Is good also. If u want do get into the math andload lines end merlin blencowe and RichardKuhnul are the authors u seek.
If Hendrix had lived would he have been as good as EDDIE? (Shaver that is)
Re: tube amp books
Hi Tom ,...perhaps I have not explained well, I'd like to understand how to design an amplifier starting from the datasheet of the tubes. find the operating points for class A or AB to certain voltages, etc... I tried to look at the datasheet but I do not understand it very well!
The data often do not match the graphics
For example:
I understand that I have to draw a line load, which would be the primary load (R)of the OT, then from there to get the points work according to the signal, I get lost.

Re: tube amp books
Merlin Blencowe (Valve Wizard) and Richard Kuehnel both cover the methodology in detail.

This is also a good primer:

Re: tube amp books
I think grtamp is interested in learning about power stage design rather than common-cathode gain stages. The Valve Wizard site has concise explanations of both SE and PP topologies.
Re: tube amp books
Kuehnel has a complete treatment of power amp design. It is a good book.

Blencowe is no longer publishing his power amp design book.

Re: tube amp books
Merlin had a Power Supply book out which is now out of print. He has not written a power amp book (yet).Colossal wrote:Blencowe is no longer publishing his power amp design book.

Steve Bench's loadlines pages may fit the bill http://diyaudioprojects.com/mirror/memb ... sbench101/
