Ceriatone 2203 build
what's up guys names John and new to the forum. I built me a 2203 kit from Nik at Ceriatone and have been jamming on it for a wile with maxon OD up front as a clean boost in standard and drop D . When I plug in one of my drop C guitars the amp sounds like shit lol. What kind of mods can I do off a On Off switch that will fix that ? Lmk
Re: Ceriatone 2203 build
Can you describe in more detail the way in which it sounds bad? Also have you ruled out the guitar as the issue? i.e. plug in the guitar that is in drop C that sounds bad, tune to standard and see if it still sounds bad.
Re: Ceriatone 2203 build
Also, are you like the countless guys that demo my amps and turn every knob to 10 or 11 or 12?

Guitar if fine . When playing in drop d and standard the amp sounds great . I'm looking for some mods to add when i play in drop c the amp will be tight.

Demo your amps? What amps? How is this helping

Mark is asking where do you have the various controls set?? Is everything on 10??
And we need a better idea of what the problem is. No bass? Too much? Mids sucked out? Treble harsh...etc.
A lot of time simple changes to the coupling caps can help "tune" the amp.

In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.
Re: Ceriatone 2203 build
What scale length is the guitar? Also what gauge strings are you using? I find that with 9s or 10s my Les Paul sounds like a tubby mud puddle even just tuned down a half step. Whereas my Frankenstrat sounds best down a half step with the same strings, even with drop d. I've gone lower before and it still maintains pretty good definition.
As Joe said though, we still need more info as to what exactly sounds bad to be of much help.

Better yet what speakers / cab? And as Mark asked how high is the gain? No such thing as a free lunch or "gotta have my answer now" around here. Work with us.
Re: Ceriatone 2203 build
I'm not a metal guy or a drop tuner but I've heard advice from pros that do drop tune... turn down the bass knob on the amp.
Your first instinct may be to turn up the bass, but the guitar will just be putting out so much that you need to compensate with the amp knob otherwise you lose all the tightness. Get the bass knob turned down to start and then see if mods are needed after that.

Or, you could learn to play at pitch.

Re: Ceriatone 2203 build
Without knowing the answers to the questions that have been asked, I'd recommend starting with the following mod (if you can perform it safely):
Replace the 22nF coupling cap after the first gain stage (C3 on the schematic I have on file) with a 2.2nF coupling cap.
See if that takes care of your drop C problems.
