I put together a SE champ with an old OPT from an old 50L6 supro.
for whatever reason its superb with an el34.
Any happy tale about champ upgrade OPT?
triodestore has a 15w upgrade for el34/6l6.

Re: A better champ OPT
No happy tales of success here (yet) but Champ OT rolls off very badly below 400-500 Hz. Almost anything better will yield more satisfying low mids & bass.
down technical blind alleys . . .
Re: A better champ OPT
Edcor has many nice SE OTs but their shipping SUCKS! I paid $20 for an OT that will be for a SE 6L6GC at 4.5k and shipping was $18. Buncha bullshit! Only thing I'd change would be the lugs for insulated leads. Then there's the wait time.
Re: A better champ OPT
I use the Hammond ESE series. Multiple output taps, choice of "bias current." These still roll off lower frequencies, but in a Champ type configuration, you actually want the the OT to drop all 60Hz and 120Hz hum (unless you've killed it in other ways).

To Canada, Triode wants $37 shipping on a $17 OT and my one enquiry to Edcor was similarily priced. Hello Hammond!Blackburn wrote:Edcor has many nice SE OTs but their shipping SUCKS!
