Belden + 450 VW -1 wire

Post by angelodp »

I have some coax Belden wire. It has the wrap type shielding with drain ( ground ) wire. Its carrying two signal wires .64mm each. Would this wire be useful as coax for amp work.

If you have a meter that will measure small capacitance, you can cut a foot of it, short one end and measure the capacitance at the open end between conductors.

I would say that below 30pf it can become brighter sounding.

Average instrument cable is generally higher than 40pf or higher.

But it may be a good thing as well if the amp is bright.

Mogami W2524 cable is 39.7pf/ ft.

Mogami W2319 cable is 47.3pf/ ft.

Shorting one end seems incorrect to me, and doesn't work with my cap meter. On the other hand, not shorting one end gives me expected readings.

I don't see how a shorted capacitor can exhibited any capacitance?
Pretty much any shorted component become a short.
