Low Power Amp on a pedal board?

Post by mirage_indigo »

Gang,
I used to post a lot over at ampage. Good too see the community is still alive and well. I'm getting back into amp building again after about 6 years off (marriage, transcontinental migrations, kid, the usual). I'll try to post about how the last two builds went (almost flawlessly, which surprised me a lot).

I'm looking at building a new pair of amps.

First will be a two channel pedal board preamp/low watt PA with an effects loop. I'm thinking a ODS style channel and a clubman style ef86 channel, passively mixed then followed by an effects loop into a 1-2W PP 12at7 powered PA. I was looking at the Firefly schematic from way back in the day for ideas. Seems I could also use a hammond 125 as a nice output driver in pushpull using a modified reverb driver stage.

Then the next amp will be a version of Kevin O'Connor's SuperScalar approach tacking on an 8Ohm input onto a SSS.

So for normal use, just run the pedal board amp into a 1x15", then for serious gig, lug around the reverb and 50W PA stage with the 8Ohm input being used as a load for the PA in the pedal board.

Yes, I know it's a lot of work.

The idea is I should be able to actually drive a decent spl level from the board itself for jamming, then up to a 50ishW SSS for gigging.
We build because we must.
