Hey guys,
My deluxe reverb needs a new footswitch. On the original, the cord is quite short and the wire for the vibrato is unshielded. I understand that it isn't carrying audio signals, but is there a technical reason it isn't unshielded? And if I make a new pedal (using say, 15' guitar cords), does it need to be unshielded as well? If so, is it enough to use shielded guitar cords, but not attach the vibrato cord's shield to ground?

Fender Vibrato - Footswitch cable need to be unshielded?

It's not shielded because , as you deducted, it doesn't pass audio signal, it doesn't need to be and it's cheaper to use non shielded cable. No matter what cable you use, one end must be grounded to the jacks casing.

Just note that if the reverb switch rca is not plugged in, or its ground has failed than the tremolo foot switch will not work as that's where it gets its needed ground from!
