That's not it at all. I'd simply rather interact with knowledgeable people than sit and read page after page of google. You don't know anything about me, man. This is the exact reason I waited so long to post anything here. Sorry for wanting to actually "talk" with people.
Re: My Carmen Ghia-esque scratch build.
Carry on, I hope you find those knowledgeable people.
Re: My Carmen Ghia-esque scratch build.
I thought i had. Wow, you're kind of a jerk, huh? There's always one. High and mighty, got umpteen thousand posts, can and has built / done anything, got tons of successful projects under his belt, but would rather come down on the new guys than actually share anything or help anyone.

Dude, I wouldn't shit in your own yard. Yes Mark has built just about anything, and everyone here that knows him shows due respect. Look for his builds, read the whole post... Then you can ask questions that will garner attention, not show that you haven't searched it fully... Try a Google search for the phrase you are looking for with "site:ampgarage.com" at the end.'64DlxRvb wrote:I thought i had. Wow, you're kind of a jerk, huh? There's always one. Probably a good third of Mark's posts are regurgitating info... He will post great links for you but you are probably on your own now that you called him a jerk. I know the post he's talking about, I bet a bunch of us here have the gutshots you are looking for. They aren't hidden.
He's not gonna give you a fish, he's trying to show you where to fish. From the perspective of others who have been here for a while, you look like the jerk.
I don't mean to scare you off, just sayin you are going about this the wrong way.
Tony

I started this I'll end this, but thanks Tony

Hopefully we can all help when we can and glad your excited about your CG build. We cannot post layout or schematic of this production amp but can show photos of builds.
Transformer Headphone trick From the AX84.com FAQ:
"First set up the power transformer. If it's not installed yet, all the better, but if it is, this will still help. If the PT is not installed, wire up the primaries to a power cord, but do not wire up any secondaries-- tape the ends of the secondaries. If the PT is installed, fine, just make sure there is no circuit on any of the secondary leads (pull all tubes, and disconnect leads and tape them as necessary).
Now set up the signal transformer (output, reverb, whatever). Hook one set of OT secondaries (your choice, but I usually go from ground to the highest impedance tap, don't worry about impedance matching here!) to a set of headphones. Tape the primary leads.
Put the headphones on, plug in the power cord, and start moving the signal transformer around. Try it all over the chassis, and also rotate it. While you might expect the least hum with the transformers as far from each other as possible and at right angles (and that may be the case for you), it might come at an odd angle and/or position. Sometimes the least hum occurs when the transformers are side by side. When you find the quietest spot, use a permanent marker to mark where the mounting holes should be."

Re: My Carmen Ghia-esque scratch build.
Thanks guys. Listen, I honestly didn't mean to piss anybody off. I just felt like i was being attacked for asking a question. Anyway, I apologize. So how about yesterday i did all that work and didn't drill or cut a single hole in the damn back of the thing....
Re: My Carmen Ghia-esque scratch build.
I put the tube sockets on this afternoon, and on the power tubes, (the two to the left) The only nuts I had around seem to me to be awfully close to the grid pins. There's about 3/32 to 1/8 inch space. Do you guys think it'll be OK? I'm using 20AWG wire, and I know I'll have to be careful soldering and not lay turds.
Thanks,
Randy

Whew, no, I wouldn't be happy with that. If any of those lugs get pulled just a lil' bit in the wrong direction, the smoke could get out.'64DlxRvb wrote:I put the tube sockets on this afternoon, and on the power tubes, (the two to the left) The only nuts I had around seem to me to be awfully close to the grid pins. Have you considered flipping over the screws, so the heads are on the inside and the nuts are on the outside? Pop rivets could be your friend too.
You could alternatively put sleeves of shrink tubing in the offending areas, but that would make future trouble shooting a pain. It's a band aid, and not a great one.
Bottom line: No.
Re: My Carmen Ghia-esque scratch build.
That's what I thought. I think flipping the screws is the way to go. Not sure I want to rivet just yet. Haven't decided if I'm going to like this chassis yet. I might want to put it in an 18watt style combo cab one day. Right now it's just going in a head cab.Zippy wrote:

Re: My Carmen Ghia-esque scratch build.
Ok here's where I am so far. I started out sort of Fender style, then wanted to try BC style (big laugh). Just kind of using this build to learn.

Re: My Carmen Ghia-esque scratch build.
What's BC style? Is that the guy who only does right angles?
Looks like you didn't flip that bolt

Re: My Carmen Ghia-esque scratch build.
Bruce Clement. Just neat and tidy. It's hard to see from the photo, but I mounted the sockets on the inside of the chassis. The nut wouldn't fit the other way. There's plenty of clearance now.
