I've got a spitting reverb on a 1965 Fender Super Reverb....
I have a 1965 Fender Super Reverb that has a noisy (as in a spitting sound) at any level above 2 on the reverb control knob. With the Channel 2 input volume all the way down, you can bring the reverb volume up and hear it. The higher I run the reverb control, the louder the spit is and it's very intermittent. Changed out the 12AT7 several times, tried different reverb pans, checked the solder joints on the reverb tube socket....still there. The 2200 resistor meters at 2270 and the 820 meters at 850. Was going to replace these next. Any suggestions? This is my first go around on here so if I'm not in the right place for this, don't throw me too far under the bus! Thanks for any input.....

Have you tried replacing the reverb recovery tube? V4 I think.

Your problem could be the reverb drive transformer. I keep a couple on hand in case nothing else works when there's a kerfuffle in the reverb department. It's the repair "of last resort" but when everything else has been tried, it's the only thing that's left. I'm sure you can find one for $20 or less. No need to spend gold dust money at Mercury, know what I mean.

That reverb drive section is a small 2 watt 8 ohm class A amp all non it's own, so take the reverb send and hook it up to one of the amps speakers, do I you still hear the popping?
With the age of the amp I would start of by replacing all of the amps plate load resistors other than the ones in the amps vibrato section.
Has the amp been recapped yet?
