Metal transformer enclosure needed

Post by M Fowler »

Looking for a metal transformer enclosure/instrument case with rounded top like the Bad Cat Unleashed has.

I've looked at Bud, Hammond, and Ebay stores. Also did google search. I might call Bad Cat next.

Plan is to build either a preamp or complete tube amp into it.

Hmmm, if you can't find just the case, maybe try tool stores, maybe one has a broken down battery charger or automotive analyzer- even a small welder that you can buy for the case.

No I can find all kinds of cases but I want a with nice radius top like the Unleashed has. Most are just square shaped and I may have to settle for that.

$100 seems a little steep for that.

I might have glossed over that one because of price but USA price is $90.

Still cheap if you consider that includes cost of chassis, enclosure, handle, and rubber feet I would have to buy. :)

$90 for an empty case?! You can get a whole welder for less such as this one - not sure if you wold like the square corners though...

 Yeah but I would end up using the welder and forget about building the amp. :)

Maybe I should figure out the chassis layout and then bend up some metal for the hood, have the local hot rod guy louver it and paint some flames. But I got a feeling I would have more into it then $100. But it's the adventure that could be a lot of fun.

I might have the back off and old dryer or washing machine around here with louvers already I could bend up over some large diameter pipe.

Unless its going to be a small production item, maybe look at old o'scopes etc for a case, would be a lot cheaper and would have a chassis set up for tubes. Stick a cool faceplate on and your good to go!

edit:
hmmmm, on the welder thing, how about this one? chassis looks perfect size for an amp, heavier gauge metal than the bud, and it has all the prerequisites!

That Campbell welder is the best I've seen so far, thanks.

Can't you get something like this over there. Thought they were common enough.
