I've got a power transformer from a Magnavox Console Stereo I want to use in a build.
Previously I've used the Magi power amp as is planning on recapping it someday. At first all was well but over time the sound began to degrade and I decided to stop using it until I recapped it.
Upon turning over the chassis I noticed some of the tar like sealing compound had begun to drip from one of the holes in the bottom and now there is a bubble of the black compound hanging out. The tranny is not shorted but I don't know if it should be used again in the future??
This may be a crazy idea I just thought of: Why not just put it in an oven at about 180 degrees upside down and try to get the sealing compound to flow back in?
Go or throw?
Second question: I've got several of these console stereo transformers around and the sheer tube count is fantastic for an amp that has an effects loop and reverb. Any opinions on power output and handling capacity using these to build an amp?

Re: Power Transformer Question- Leaked Goop
I wouldn't worry about getting the goop back in. Try running AC into that transformer without any load on it. If it heats up all by itself, it's toast and fit for the recycling bin. If not, probably OK to use but best have as small a fuse as possible on the AC line and keep your nose alert for the odor of roasting transformer. Any further trouble, out it goes.

Roger That!
Thanks Leo, I'll give that a whirl and see how things go,
