Orange Rockerverb 50 MK II Combo - Sympathetic Vibrations

Hey, I was researching this problem on the internet and found this forum. Figured I'd see what you guys thought.

I recently bought this amp and love it, but I'm having problems with sympathetic vibrations on the clean channel. I understand combos are kind of prone to these problems generally, but is there anything that can be done? I'm not even sure what's rattling, but if I had to guess I'd say it's the tubes. Is there mcguyver-style solution to this kind of thing? It's a 2x12 if that matters.

On the clean channel only kinda makes no logic to me, if on the lead setting you have as much low end going on than both channels should be acting up!

Maybe a component has become microphonic on the clean channel? Can you tell if the noise is coming through the speaker? Disabling the combo's speaker and plugging into another amp or cab may give a clue.

I probably shouldn't have said just the clean the channel. I think it's only noticeable on the clean channel, but it probably happens on both. It goes away if I plug into an external cabinet. I'm pretty sure it's not coming through the speaker.

Without hearing the vibration, it could be a few things. It could be a cold solder joint. I have experienced this with several amps and it can manifest itself at any frequency i.e. any string any fret, but it is usually located in a specific area. The solder joint could visibly look correct so you really have to take a wide approach and reflow all the joints to be safe. I have cured this without ever knowing which joint was the problem.

It could be a cabinet/chassis vibration. The biggest culprit is normally the chassis vibrating against the cab. You can use your hands to touch different spots on the cab and 'search' for the offending area. Then it is usually some type of weather stripping or reseating of the chassis to resolve the issue. You could also plug the amp into a separate speaker and test if the vibration is gone.

It could also be a speaker cone or coil. Test with another cab/speaker.

Power tube ringing from the speaker's sound wave's is easily heard and solution is tube o'rings.

Amplifier internal components bad or bad solder joint.

Cabinet components loose.

Poor speaker.

Yeah, I bought some o-rings that haven't got here yet. I'm hoping that it's, because I'm not qualified to fix the other stuff. It does kind of sound like glass or metallic rattling. It's not the standard cabinet rattle that I've heard before.

I had this issue in my 5E3 build. It turned out to be the JJ output tubes. This is one of a few reasons I will never buy anything JJ again.

Nope, doesn't matter where the reverb is set.
