Recommendations for a Fender Deluxe-ish power transformer...

Post by dehughes »

Hello all,

I'm relatively familiar with the usual suspects (Mercury, Heyboer, Mojotone, Shinrock, etc...) but would value your input as to what power tranny would be recommended for a Brown or possibly Blackface Deluxe-inspired amp. I'm thinking a pair of 6V6s, a GZ34 recto, and three 12AX7s. I currently have chassis that are setup for 2 1/4" x 2 13/16" mountings, if that helps...

Thanks so much!

Is that vertical mount or lay-down?

Dave Allen has a lay-down 320-0-320 180mA PT that could also support 6L6s, probably overkill for 6V6s, but just excellent iron, I've used it and just bought another. It will fit a BFDR chassis eg Mojo's knockoff perfectly, 2 1/4 x 2 13/16 laydown. 50V bias tap too. Model TP40D.

Sorry! Lay down mount.

Actually, I've been e-mailing Paul at Mercury Magnetics and all their Deluxe PTs require those exact mounting dimensions! :) Too perfect...

I'll look into Allen's stuff as well...thanks!
