This might be a stupid one (I suspect so...), but why do we design amps with Voltage gain stage, then Current raise stage and not the other way around? At the end, we will have wattage the same way, isn't it?

The output tubes are big and beefy, it would be a waste of material and current using them at the start of the chain.badoumba wrote:experts,

Look at it backwards: a power tube requires tens of volts of input to produce full output. A guitar puts out, what, 100mV?
That's just not how tubes work. You can't dump any appreciable amount of current into a tube, even a power tube, without melting it.
Okay, sometimes you can dump a small amount of current into a power tube. AB2 and all. Not, like, a hundred watts though.
Definitely not into a preamp "voltage gain" tube.
