Power transformer question

Post by wildeman »

Just bought me a messed up Jim Kelley Facs amp with burned Power Transformer. Who knows the original specs for this one? Does Hammond or others make a drop in replacemet? I would be glad to make this thing work again.

Why not go direct to the builder? http://www.jimkelleyamplifiers.com/schem.htm Google is our friend :D

I think that Jim may be a member here as well. I know that I've seen him chime in from time-to-time here (or it could have been TGP, but I think here).

Assuming the bolt pattern lines up it looks close enough to ideal -- if not exactly so.

Is there any audible reason why I shouldn't go for a standard twin PT I can buy here . They match exactly . They only have 320V taps. Do I need this 345V taps only to be as close as possible to the original. What is the advantage of using the high voltage taps.

IIRC the FACS amp specs 485V plate. You won't get that with a 320-0-320 PT. You should get close with 345.

Yup, 485V, see schem attached.
