I have. At times i use 6L6 and even 6V6. Plates are 440v so the JJ's can handle it and my bias (dual bias) has enough range to cover them all. I like them but i always tend to prefer the SED EL34. They just have a midrange i can't find in anything else. Tried a few 6l6 too, JJ, sovtek and SED. Oddly enough, while SED are by far my fav 34, i didn't care for the SED 6L6 yet like the JJ best! Funny eh? EL34=fav, SED, worse, JJ. 6L6= fav, JJ, worse, SED. Of course thats of only 3 brands of 6L6.Jana wrote:Maybe you should think outside the box, or is that the tube socket, for a minute. I don't know what your plate voltage is, but maybe try a different tube (other than EL34). Try some 6550 or KT88 if your amp has the juice to handle them. Or, if your plate voltages aren't too high, try 5881. You will have to tweak the bias range but you know how to do that.
