Taming the cables under your pedalboard

Post by rfgordon »

OK, so maybe I'm the last guy on earth to think of this trick, but in case I'm not, I figured I'd share it.

I use the big PedalTrain board. The square section tubes make sort of a grid like arrangement. I had the idea of putting velcro on the sides of the tubes so that I can use small lengths of velcro to gather and affix cables. I tried zip ties, but I rearrange things too often!

The board is missing my Ernie Ball VPJr, Snarling Dogs Wah, and a RATT.

I've got the VPJr and wah being modded by JHS Pedals. They are also taking an old R2DU rack mount dual RATT (traded from a guy for a speaker) and putting the two RATT sides into separate custom stompboxes. I can't wait to get them back!

Very nice group of quality pedals.

I think I have the same pedal board as you.

Did you know that they make velcro cable ties?

I just use zip ties as I have a boat load of them.

I've always wanted to try one of those looper switches.

I use the velcro strips on instrument cables. Under the board I wanted to get things up and out of the way so they are less likely to get hung up on something.

As for the verbs, yep, i dig it. I had the Blue Sky first, then succumbed to Strymon's siren song after I got the Timeline & Mobius.

The Blue Sky is great for when I bypass the others, like with the OCD set for just a hint of hair.

I was interested in the Big Sky for the modulated effect,
It sounded awesome on the clip samples.
But after I saw the price
I quickly subdued myself and regained my composure.

IOW, I shut it down because I couldn't afford it.......... :?

George L or Lava cables would be a great, quick solution. super easy to make custom length cables that will sound better, be much neater and give you more room on the top of the board too. They are not as inexpensive as those molded cables but considering what you have invested in the pedals, the cost of better cables will be a drop in the bucket.
